It’s hard to to believe that by the end of the week, we will be in September. After a couple of years of ‘Pandemic Time’, it seems like 2022 is zipping by at the speed of light.
It’s also hard to believe that it was 60 years ago this September that one of the most influential ‘environmental’ books of all time - Silent Spring, by Rachel Carson - was first published. The book spurred our modern idea of environmentalism and has been the catalyst for countless decisions and actions that have made our air, water, and land cleaner, safer, and more biodiverse.
So, throughout September I’m going to be interspersing some passages from and notes about Silent Spring and Carson’s vision. We’ll trace her influence as we also look at current environmental writings, and recent decisions and actions, including the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.
As I try to note often here, there are lots of positive actions happening worldwide and at home. It’s easy to get lost in the destruction and meanness without recognizing and remembering to celebrate progress and to let it inspire us to create more of it.
So, most of September will get back to our roots (pardon the pun) and will hopefully be the kind of reminder and inspiration that will be fun and interesting too.
In the meantime, I’m going to take a short pause from posting this week (as I will do about once a quarter) and be back next Monday with new content. AND, don’t forget that if you’re a paid subscriber, to join us next Tuesday (Sept 6th) at 11am ET for our co-work session to kick off some September Spark!!
I’ll send reminders about that to the paid subscribers with login details.
I hope you have a joyful week!
