Amazing News!! National Science Day Proclamation on President's Desk!
Congratulations to Melissa Booth and all who helped.
About a year ago, in a little Earth’s Next Chapter co-work group I had organized, the conversation got onto to the fact that the US doesn’t have a National Science Day. The person pointing this out to the rest of us was Dr. Melissa Booth.
Then….we (politely and lovingly) urged her to ‘fix that’! The group shared various contacts that we had for House science committees/staff and Melissa went to work.
And now, after lots of work on behalf of Melissa, organizations and individuals writing letters of support, and Representatives Ross and Carey, and especially Ross’s legislative aid, Wallace Huston, there is a bipartisan letter signed by 53 Members of Congress on the Presidents’s Desk waiting for his signature to designate November 10th as US National Science Day!
This is extraordinary - hardly any new federally-declared ‘national days’ get to this point any more, and I can’t see see why this particular President wouldn’t sign this.
I think it’s about time we get to celebrate the scientific endeavors and accomplishments of the US! And what a great way to engage students and encourage more of them to enter the sciences.
Congratulations Melissa, Wallace, Rep. Ross and all!!

Very cool. Congrats to Melissa and your entire cohort for encouraging her to act!
