Friday Bits and Bobs (Nov 4)
If you want your candidate to win, you might have to help
On this last Friday before the official voting day on Tuesday 8th, at least four states have neck and neck races for a senate seat (Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Ohio). Control of the senate will hinge on these races, but at least as importantly, representation of these states in Congress hinges on them. If you think your candidate would be the better representative of your state and its issues, you might want to make a few calls, or knock on some doors. Check out your candidate’s website for how to help. There are also many, many House and state races that are very close in the polls and volunteers can literally change the outcome.
Forty-one more baby turtles.
Apparently San Diego zoo has managed to captively breed some Indian Narrow-Nosed Turtles. It’s not clear how many are still in the wild, but likely not many, so this is encouraging. They are a little weird-looking.
Gen-Xers realize we’re middle-aged.
A fun article from the NYT. My favorite line: “You learn that you can inflict a grave injury to your own body simply by reaching for the alarm clock in the wrong way. You know that when you wind up in physical therapy it will not be the result of a marathon or water skiing but because of something that happened on a sidewalk.”
Uruguay as a sustainable living model?
Not sure this article translates directly, but some great examples and philosophy in this exploration of Uruguay. Definitely makes me want to visit at the very least.
I hope you all have a great weekend and are still enjoying the halloween candy while not stressing too much about elections or Thanksgiving! :-)
