When so many people acquired ‘pandemic puppies’, it was to relieve the stress, boredom and loneliness of our forced isolation. Now that these puppies are two or three years old, they can help us through this next phase of stress, politics, and intentional isolation from other crazy people. Thank goodness.
So I thought I’d give a brief update on ours. Because then we all get to see puppy pics on a Saturday.
Our pandemic puppy was not a deliberate event. She literally showed up on our back doorstep early one morning in a major thunderstorm. She was very scared and wet, but otherwise healthy and fine. We tried to find her owner over the next few days, but no luck, and she became our very own (very) badly-behaved puppy. We already have one slightly arthritic 9-year old collie (Sweet Ava Longnose) and I was secretly hoping that 5 lb puppy Betty Biscuit would grow into a robust hiking-companion-sized 30 lb adult Betty Biscuit.
She is 12 lbs. Her front legs are about 2.5 inches long. She looks like a muppet.
But, her naughty puppiness slowly (so slowly) gave way to more appropriate dog behavior, her tail became extravagantly fluffy, and she has become the perfect little office mate. Her filing skills need work, but she’s good at picking up dropped pieces of food (no broccoli), is available for belly rubs at a nanosecond’s notice, and mostly sleeps under my desk while I work.
Both of our pups are the perfect antidotes to a nutty world. Here are their profiles, and a few pics to tell their story:
Sweet Ava Longnose:
Age: 9
Likes: chicken, everyone (in that order).
Dislikes: wet grass, the next door cat
Hobbies: redistributing water from her bowl all over the house, shedding, looking like a Hollywood movie star.
Betty Biscuit (goes by Biscuit, BB, or ‘get-out-of-there!’)
Age: 2
Likes: belly rubs, snorting
Dislikes: coming when called, broccoli
Hobbies: Placing toys underfoot, running for no reason, looking startled
This was the first day we found Miss Betty B - after being cleaned and checked at the vet:
Biscuit being ridiculous cute during her first few weeks:
And this is a blurry pic, but it’s her ‘smile’ when she wants whatever you have in your hand. She is basically a cartoon dog:

Hope you have a great Saturday!
Love the update on the pups! 🐾
