Vermonters are hardy.
Our camper is parked opposite a young couple who bought a 1984 Winnebago and are living in it full time with their two super well-behaved pups. I don’t know their story, but whether this is their full time choice, or they’re saving up a ton of money, or….who knows….you have to be hardy to live in a camper through a Vermont winter.
Vermonters pay workers a decent wage.
Apparently, Vermonters can make a decent living from working in a cafe. If you worked full time at the Burlington Bagel company you would make over $45k a year. Not a fortune to be sure, and I’m sure Burlington is a pricey place to live, but life is doable for most people on $4k/month.
Vermonters are tolerant
Apparently one of the political candidates for senate in Vermont is a guy called ‘Malloy’. His signs read ‘Deploy Malloy. Republican for Senate’, and the image is the outline of of a stern-looking eagle. Two guys were standing on a street corner campaigning for their man Malloy. One of the men held a giant US flag. I heard one car honk support for these guys and everyone else…..completely ignored them.
Vermont is a stronghold state for Democrats and I doubt that Malloy stands a chance, but at least while I was in the vicinity, no-one heckled or jeered the men. Everyone just went on about their business.
I can only imagine if two Democrats were standing on a street corner, supporting their candidate in my part of the world - in East Tennessee - a Republican stronghold. I guarantee there would be insults and yelling hurled from passing pickups. I like Vermont’s approach much, much better.
And there are ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘All are Welcome’ signs everywhere. So nice to see.
Vermonters like beer and mountains.
So many local brews! So many hills and mountains and lakes! If it weren’t for all that snow….Vermont might might have a new resident in me. Gorgeous. Quite a few potholes though. Forgot what it was like to live in a northern state with all the freeze-thaw!
And finally, Vermont has some funny-named candidates….???
I would totally vote for Dryer Vent though, whoever he or she is. Sounds like a great platform - cleaning up America!
